Every stylist has their own signature, and Cristophe Beverly Hills stylist Glenn Deneve is an expert in cutting hair dry. A unique technique, Glenn Deneve (stylist for New Year, New You Winner Karin) yes cut’s hair when it’s dry. Trained in Europe, Glenn is one of the only stylists at Cristophe Salon, who cuts hair while it’s dry, which is more difficult than when the hair is wet. By cutting the hair when it is dry, he is able to style it by the way the hair falls as it grows. When the hair is wet, it can be manipulated in any direction, but when dry it will fall in the same direction it grows, which might not be the way it was originally cut.

Cristophe Salon’s have grown to meet the increasing demand for fast services by creating “condensed 30-minute versions of their traditional treatments” at all salons and the quick-fix makeup application at the Beverly Hills salon.  You will have to pick up the issue to see what perks out St. Barth’s clientele receive.

At the beginning of February, Cristophe’s Beverly Hills salon location changed its hours to cater to their hard-working clients that leave the office late. With extended hours on Wednesday untill 10pm, there is no need to give up your Saturday off to sit in the salon.

Colorist Rashida Lambert’s personality is as vibrant as sun-kissed summer highlights! She has a serious passion and love for color.  Having been an artist as a child, a canvas could no longer hold her creativity and she began experimenting with coloring her own hair; blue, pink, and platinum blonde.  Eventually she took her experimentation to another (professional) level and graduate from color training programs with Wella, Redken, and L’Oreal.  A color designer at Cristophe Salon in Washington DC,  she has this to say about her experience; “I like to laugh and enjoy my clients and I am grateful to those around me who give me a chance to do my thing. Nothing gives me the excitement, energy or the same freedom as creating for my clients. People make the best canvas.”

1. If you could style the hair of any celebrity (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

 I love Oprah.  I don’t think I’ll be able to pry her from the hands of her stylist or makeup artist.   I guess that’s one of the reasons I like her.  I would just love the opportunity to have some one on one time.  The kind of time I get to spend with my

2.  What is the best compliment ever received from a client?

I don’t have one, but I love it when my clients tell me that they couldn’t wait to see me.  My clients and I have a great time when they come in and when we’re done they look renewed.

3. If you were a fruit, which one would you be and why? 

I would have to say if I were a fruit I would be a purple passion fruit.  The deep hue of purple on a Passion fruit is as intense as the flavor.   I’m a bubbly, artsy person and have definitely been described as colorful.  When it comes to my crafts, people describe me as intense .

4.Do you remember the first haircut or color you did as a professional stylist, what was it? 

I remember my first client as a professional colorist because it was a funny story.  The company I worked for hosted a private opening for our then newest location.   One week prior to the opening, I tested out of the color-training program I had

been attending.  I was excited.   Finally I would have my own chair, no more dishes, shampoos or dry hands, and no more assistant wages so maybe now I could eat.

My client was brought to my station and we had a consultation where we decided that I would apply a base color to cover grey and natural blond highlights.  I found myself getting nervous while applying the highlights because I was trying very hard to be meticulous and follow all the rules of procedure.  Apparently, I annoyed my client by taking way too long.  I caught eyes with her in the mirror

just as I was about to apply her base color.  It seemed to come from nowhere.  I heard a voice say “are you slow?”   As I was wondering if she was referring to my intellect she continued, “You must be slow.  My usual stylist does all this and gives me a haircut in less than an hour and a half.”  With a one-track mind and not really knowing what to say I responded, “it takes at least 30 mins to apply highlights but I’m not that fast, and it takes at least another 30 mins for your color to process correctly, then shampoo.”  I paused as I noticed that she looked confused and annoyed.  I finished applying color, the client processed, was shampooed, then went on to have her hair blown dry.

I sheepishly asked her how she liked her hair as she was checking out.  She replied that is looked nice, but it took way too long.  As she left I remember thinking I have to get my speed up or I’ll never have clients.

Two months later guess who came to see me?  She said her color lasted longer than with her previous stylist and didn’t get brassy, so she’d just have to find the time to sit for that long.  I Iearned that time is crucial, so I needed to improve on that, but I also learned to be confident in what you know.  Quality is just as important, if not, more.

5. What are three words that define you as a person and stylist?

The three words that I think describes me as a person and stylist is artistic, diverse, and knowledgeable.

I began working as Cristophe’s assistant and then onto stylist/colorist creating the blondes I’m famous for–including the blonde locks that helped to make Pamela Anderson famous. My style is soft, sexy cuts that are inspired by my days at Cristophe Salon and Beverly Hills. I have been in San Francisco for the last 15 years, and have the single most internet presence for a single hairstylist in SF (search Jason Richard) thanks to my recent studies at Academy of Art University SF ( New Media Major). Aside from coloring and cutting, travel is my favorite pastime. I travel the globe (Tel Aviv, Rio de Janeiro, Dublin, Buenos Aires, London, Mexico City, Havana recently) to get a sense of what women are wearing, hair styles, and to pick up style trends in hair to inspire myself. I recently completed advanced training for professionals at Vidal Sassoon and will attend advanced training again in March of 2012.

When we read Karin’s “New Year, New You” entry we all became huge fans! With hard work and dedication to her health and wellbeing, along with the drive to succeed as an entrepreneur we were rooting for her. Looking for an outward transformation to match her inner one, we were enthusiastic about her enthusiasm.

2012 will truly be a “New Year, New Me.” In January, I will have met my 30-pound weight loss goal. In February, I am simultaneously launching two businesses. In the midst of pouring all I have, literally and figuratively, into new business ventures, and meeting goals, my hair got neglected. My hair is to my waist (!!) and definitely need to jazz up my look to match how I feel on the inside: empowered & transformed!! In 2011, I transformed body, soul and mind. 2012 is about stepping into my destiny. Calling Cristophe Beverly Hills to the rescue!

Karin share’s her experience at the Cristophe Salon Beverly Hills:

I was overjoyed upon finding out I was selected for “New Year, New You.”  It came at the perfect time.  My hair majorly needed TLC and knew I would be in good hands at Cristophe.

My day started with the lovely Lana giving me sunkissed highlights.  She gave me a beautiful color perfect for spring.  Lana has great insight on application and color for each individual.  Even though it was my first time being in her chair, I was at ease the entire time.

Glenn revived my hair with a fabulous cut.  Not much direction was needed; he knew exactly what to do. He cut my hair dry and the result was healthy hair with body and style. Thanks for turning me on to Oribe Dry Texturing Spray, Glenn!

While getting my hair cut, I had the pleasure of getting my nails done by Diana.  She gave my nails a beautiful shape, and was very gentle – no bloody cuticles here! 

Getting my make-up done by Jermaine was like the whipped cream and cherry on top – a hot fudge sundae is not complete without it!  It was pure joy to have her do my makeup.  She made my eyes pop – I was ready for my night out!  I reluctantly washed my face that night as I wanted to keep my “eyes” longer!

Thank you, Cristophe, for the fabulous day of pampering.  I truly feel transformed from the inside out!

Last week we had the pleasure of having renowned stylist Roy Teeluck host a VIP Pop-Up Beauty Bar at the Cristophe Salon Beverly Hills for the Grammy’s. The two day beauty event was kicked off with a little soiree. Delicious nibbly bits were provided by Champagne Bakery of Beverly Hills, perfect buttery mini quiche and an amazing dessert tray took center stage. Complimented by a little bubbly, every one enjoyed themselves while mingling talking about the upcoming (now past) award show. Roy even brought out a hair accessory project he has been working on for demonstration, but more on that another day.
